At Chilford Hall we pride ourselves in offering informative yet fun tours.
Rest assured that if it's raining, or you'd rather not over indulge on exercise,
visiting a vineyard is not necessarily an outdoor activity. A lot of the
really interesting bit the wine takes place indoors!
The winery opens for guided tours on 1st March, when the wines are still in tanks and pruning is under way in the vineyard. Visitors wishing to view specific activities such as bottling, picking etc. should call the vineyard to check when they are likely to occur.
The guided tours take place in the Winery, with all its equipment, tanks and bottles. So, you can skip the walks and concentrate on the winery if that's what takes your fancy. The well-informed guides can answer all your questions about vines and vineyard practice, after that, you are free to explore the vineyard at your leisure, or head straight to the Vineleaf Café for a tutored tasting of the wines.
If you do enjoy the outdoors, however, the new short and extended Vineyard Trails at Chilford Hall offer you walks with a difference. The Vineyard Trail weaves its way through the different vine varieties, with information boards on all aspects of vines and vineyard management. Lying close to the Icknield Way (and featured on Anglia Television's 'Far and Wide' series in November 2000), the Rivey Hill walk, includes this highest point in Cambridgeshire.
Children and dogs on leads are welcome on the trail and the walk, which includes splendid views over the rolling countryside.
From Spring to Harvest time, you will have a great day out at Chilford
Hall Vineyard. Great wine, dramatic scenery and the great taste of England.
